The structure of North West Business Finance is as
Cliff Maylor, CEO NWBF
Cliff joined NWBF in December 2010 as chief financial officer. He
is a Liverpool Chartered Accountant with a strong entrepreneurial
background in the SME arena. After qualifying, Cliff spent four
years in corporate finance before establishing a number of
successful owner-managed businesses. As chief executive, he assumes
responsibility for the day-to-day running of the company and the
overall management of The Fund.
The board of North West Business Finance is made up of senior
and experienced figures from across the professional services
sector and across the region:
Malcolm was one of two Vice Chairmen of KPMG in the UK. Malcolm
has various management roles within KPMG and also sat on its UK and
European Boards and was a member of those Boards remuneration
committees. In terms of clients, he had a portfolio of clients
ranging from listed plc's to smaller entrepreneurial
A qualified accountant and a former Corporate Finance Partner at
PKF in Manchester, Clive had previously worked for 3i plc. He has
been heavily involved in both the establishment of NWBF and
previous public sector venture capital funds.
A qualified solicitor, working for companies such as 3i plc and
DLA Piper, Michael currently holds non-executive and advisory
positions at Solerox Ltd and Liverpool Chamber of Commerce.
Previous appointments include Chairman of David McLean Group Ltd
and Non-Executive Director of MTL Services PLC.
Rory has spent more than twenty years working with the UK
Government on the development and implementation of various venture
capital and lending programmes. Previous roles have included; CEO
and Chief Investment Officer of Capital for Enterprise, prior to
which he was Senior Investment Manager at Westport Private Equity
Ltd, designing and investing in venture capital funds around the
world. Rory was also responsible for developing and implementing
the UK Government's first interventions in venture capital funds in
NWBF has an experienced independent Investment Advisory Panel,
whose role is to provide advice from time to time, to the NWBF
Board, and includes:
Brenda is formerly the Managing Director of Granada Television and
a Board member of NWDA. With a career in media, Brenda is the IAP
member with specific focus on the digital and creative priority
Clive Brook As above.
Nicholson John has extensive experience of the
chemical and pharmaceutical industries and the management of early
stage technology businesses. He is currently Chairman and CEO
of Gentronix Ltd. John is the IAP member with specific focus
on the biomedical priority sector.
