The North West Fund Partners with Global Entrepreneurship Congress

Press Release 23rd February 2012

The North West Fund has joined a growing list of organisations sponsoring next month's Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) in Liverpool - the world's first festival of Entrepreneurship.

The North West Fund, a £185m evergreen investment fund established to provide debt and equity funding to businesses in the region, has been announced as an enterprise partner. The North West Fund is supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

GEC 2012 is an internationally significant event, which runs from March 9 to16, and will provide a global platform for passionate business people to come together, inspire others and share ideas.

Andy Leach, chief executive of North West Business Finance, which manages The North West Fund, said: "The Global Entrepreneurship Congress will attract delegates not just from across the UK but from across the world, so we are very proud to be involved.

"Like The North West Fund, the event aims to support and nurture the next generation of inspiring entrepreneurs and help draw investment to our great region.

"Entrepreneurs are a key target demographic for our funding, of which 40 per cent is specifically allocated to Merseyside."

Max Steinberg, chief executive of Liverpool Vision, who is organising GEC, said: "The North West Fund are an ideal partner for GEC. They provide valuable support to Liverpool's SME's and like GEC, they are working to ensure Liverpool is recognised as a global business centre."

Leading entrepreneurs will gather at the ACC in Liverpool to join startup champions, government officials, investors and policymakers from 123 countries, creating the world's largest gathering of the enterprise community.

Successful entrepreneurs will share their experiences, deliver inspiring speeches and host a series of discussions. Speakers already confirmed include Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson and former Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy.
