The North West Fund Colours Event June 2012

This quarter marked our inaugural Colours event, held at Lymm Rugby Club. A huge success, this brought together 160 people from our portfolio companies, our fund managers and stakeholders. Here they gained inspiration from Stephen Falder, founder of hygienic chemicals firm Byotrol, who shared some of the learning and experiences he encountered in the course of growing his business.

Meanwhile, motivational speaker David Thomas demonstrated through amazing memory exercises how ambitions might be achieved beyond our conditioned expectations.

We now have our own 'Colours network' and LinkedIn group to help our entrepreneurs build relationships with each other and support them as they move their businesses to the next stage.

With a programme of  events in conjunction with the Institute of Directors North West we took our 'Inspire and Grow' roadshow to Warrington, Liverpool, Preston and Newby Bridge in Cumbria, attracting more than 120 attendees in all. In each session, we gave an overview of how The Fund works and some of our inspiring entrepreneurs shared their experiences of accessing support from The Fund.

In Merseyside, we partnered Access2Finance NW to run a series of taster sessions on sources of finance with Liverpool Vision, Sefton Council and Halton and St Helen's Chambers. We hosted entrepreneurs from a variety of SMEs who were keen to learn how to get hold of funding support that could step-change their business.

Elsewhere, it was great to be one of the busiest stands at the Business Growth Hub's Financing Growth event at the Bridgewater Hall in July.

Our congratulations go to the Mole Group, winners of this year's Merseyside Innovation Awards, which we co-sponsored.

Finally, we were delighted to welcome Ed Vaizey, the Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, to the North West. Mr Vaizey was keen to learn more about the region's digital and creative sector and how The North West Fund for Digital and Creative, managed by AXM Venture Capital, is helping to support this growing industry.

He said afterwards: "The digital and creative industries are a fundamental part of our economy and a key strength of the UK. I am impressed by what I saw and heard at The North West Fund and AXM. There is a real passion among entrepreneurs in this part of the UK to set up and grow digital and creative businesses."
