OUR STRUCTURE

North West Business Finance Limited (NWBF)

NWBF is an independent, private sector, not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee, established to oversee the delivery of The North West Fund.

The company is governed by an independent Board with a non-executive chairman. The Board has appointed an independent Investment Advisory Panel to advise on the ongoing performance of The North West Fund. Individual appointments to the Investment Advisory Panel have been made based on expertise in either private equity, venture capital or the specific sectors targeted by The North West Fund.

Funds now FULLY INVESTED

The North West Fund for Venture Capital (£50,000 - £2m)

This Fund provided risk capital for new and early-stage start-up companies, in return for an equity share. Supporting entrepreneurs with finance, advice and a network of contacts to maximise growth. 

The North West Fund for Mezzanine (£750,000 - £2m)

This Fund provided investment capital to support business expansion in circumstances where the company is already generating trading income and cash flow. This type of funding is particularly helpful to fast growing innovative businesses which have been unable to attract investment capital from traditional sources. 

The North West Fund for Loans Plus (£50,000 - £750,000)

A source of debt/quasi debt investment for growing SMEs. Targeted at businesses in the North West that required finance to achieve their growth plans. This fund also provided follow-on funding and offered co-investment alongside other funders.  

The North West Fund for Micro Loans (£25,000 - £50,000)

A source of debt/quasi debt investment to assist entrepreneurs wishing to start their own business and existing SMEs looking to grow. Targeted at businesses in the North West that required finance to achieve their growth plans. This fund also offered co-investment alongside other funders.  

The North West Fund for Energy and Environmental (£50,000 - £2m)

This Fund provided equity packages for growth oriented businesses operating within the Energy and Environmental sector. The investment, a combination of equity or quasi-equity, has been used to support a broad range of needs from start-up and early stage development through to expansion plans for trading businesses. 

The North West Fund for Biomedical (£50,000 - £1.5m)

This Fund provided equity packages for growth oriented businesses operating within the Biomedical sector. The investment has been used to support a broad range of needs from start-up and early stage development through to expansion plans for trading businesses. Capital structures included a combination of equity, quasi-equity or mezzanine capital and loan support as best suited the needs of the company.

The North West Fund for Digital and Creative (£50,000 - £1.5m)

This Fund provided equity packages for growth oriented businesses operating within the Digital and Creative sector. The investment has been used to support a broad range of needs from start-up and early stage development through to expansion plans for trading businesses. Capital structures included a combination of equity and loan support as best suited the needs of the company.
